About metomi.com

I'm a 30-something Toronto mom who has gone through a ton of books, toys and other on-line and on the town adventures with my four year old daughter, one-year old son and loving hubby. I'm always looking for ways to make learning fun, and am especially on the lookout for great books. There are so many wonderful children's books out there that never get any press, so I'm hoping to shine a well-deserved spotlight on some of them. I've included links to booksellers but encourage you to use your public library - I'm a big fan of the Toronto Public Library and its online system, literally a world of books at your fingertips! I also think it's about spending wisely; with books, I usually research online reviews and do a serious browse at the bookstore or library before a book gets in front of the kids.

For me it's been worth the extra effort and I've only had a few misses. It's only been a few years but the kids have already enjoyed so many reading adventures. I would have appreciated a site like this when I was starting out as a new parent, so here it is. Whether you're a busy mom or dad, grandparent or caregiver, I hope you find these suggestions of value. Centred around books and a passion for reading, I've tried to round out the monthly theme with other interesting and related activities. Happy reading!

Why the name "metomi"? It just came to me one night while I was working on the site. It had a nice ring to it, I liked the "tome" in metomi for the obvious reasons, and we've given the name to our friendly site mascot!
